At Talewind, sustainability is one of our core company values and we are actively working to make the world a better place one small step at a time. Our processes are reusable, our practices are designed with our team’s health at the forefront and our games are built to last.
Since our inception, we have been a remote first studio which works a 4 day week and actively discourages crunch. Offering our team such a healthy work life balance has had impressive results, which has been backed up by the great feedback from our quarterly wellbeing check-ins with staff. We believe that when employees feel less stressed and have more time for personal activities, they are more likely to engage in sustainable behaviours in their personal lives which can only be a good thing for the planet.
Our Sustainability Goals
We have set out sustainability goals for the studio with our team and players in mind, with the aim to educate and promote a kinder attitude to our planet. These include initiatives such as:
Weekly sustainability tips shared over Slack
A move to eco-friendly suppliers and vendors
Environmental film and documentary screenings
Incorporating environmental activities into our in-person quarterly meets
Fundraising for environmental charities
Sustainability and Game Development
The way in which we approach game development at Talewind also draws on sustainable practices:
We build our games with reusability in mind. Our tech and tooling are pluggable, enabling us to use them in future projects.
Our teams are small and agile, enabling us to deliver, measure and innovate faster than larger teams.
We’re mindful about the theming and messaging we’re putting out into the metaverse. We have the privilege of engaging millions of young people in the space and we create experiences that are a positive addition to their lives.
Post-launch, we focus on regular updates to optimise games for performance and energy efficiency – addressing bugs, improving optimisation, and implementing energy-saving features.
All of the above help to extend the lifespan of our games and promote a more sustainable gaming ecosystem.
Experiences That Last
The next generation of consumers are increasingly more digitally savvy than the previous. This means brands need to move away from more traditional advertising routes if they’re going to build brand affinity with those growing up today. Our advice for any brands coming into the metaverse space is to invest in experiences that are going to last. Doing so can:
Build on long term engagement. By investing in experiences that have longevity, brands can engage with users over an extended period, fostering stronger relationships and brand loyalty. Creating lasting experiences ensures that users continue to interact with the brand and its offerings within the metaverse.
Increase brand recognition. Developing enduring experiences in the metaverse allows brands to establish their presence and build recognition within the digital realm. When brands invest in experiences that are designed to last, they can create a strong brand identity and become synonymous with specific activities, communities, or virtual spaces such as Roblox.
Build communities and increase social impact. The metaverse thrives on social interaction and community engagement. Brands that invest in lasting experiences can contribute to the creation of vibrant virtual communities centred around their offerings. By fostering social connections, supporting user-generated content, and providing valuable experiences, brands can positively impact the metaverse ecosystem and build a dedicated community of users.
Consumers are looking to brands to be role models and custodians of the future of this planet. Therefore, brands must be aware of their digital presence and remember to live their values through actions rather than messaging – Gen Alpha and Gen Z are very savvy when it comes to greenwashing!
Talewind is perfectly placed to guide brands wanting to enter this space in creating sustainable, engaging and living experiences. To find out more, get in touch with us!
